Real Madrid President Florentino Perez has made his position clear on the speculation surrounding current manager Carlo Ancelotti’s future, stating that he doesn’t want to hear anymore rumors about the Italian’s potential departure from the club.
Ancelotti has been widely linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu in recent weeks, with reports suggesting that he may be offered the vacant manager’s position at Tottenham Hotspur, following the sacking of Jose Mourinho.
However, speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Perez dismissed the rumors, saying: “I don’t want to hear any more about this. Carlo is our coach and we are very happy with him. He has done a great job this season and we have complete confidence in him.”
Perez’s comments come just days after Ancelotti himself spoke out on his future, insisting that he was fully committed to Real Madrid and had no plans to leave the club anytime soon.
“I have a contract with Real Madrid and I am very happy here,” Ancelotti told Spanish outlet AS. “I am focused on finishing the season strongly and then planning for next season, which I am very excited about.”
Ancelotti returned to Real Madrid for a second spell in charge of the club last summer, following a successful stint at Everton in the Premier League. In his first season back at the Bernabeu, he has guided the team to second place in La Liga, just two points behind leaders Atletico Madrid with four games remaining.
The Italian also led Real Madrid to the semi-finals of the Champions League, where they were knocked out by Chelsea. However, he has come under some criticism from fans and pundits for his tactics in the first leg of that tie, which saw his side fail to register a single shot on target.
Despite this, it seems that Perez remains fully committed to Ancelotti and believes that he is the right man to lead Real Madrid forward in the coming seasons.
With the summer transfer window fast approaching, Ancelotti will be looking to strengthen his squad ahead of the new campaign, as he aims to build a team capable of challenging for both domestic and European honors.
Whether he will be given the funds to do so remains to be seen, but for now, it seems that both he and Perez are focused on finishing this season strongly and planning for the future together.
