Are the Bears working on a Jalen Carter backup plan

As the 2021 NFL Draft approaches, the Chicago Bears are reportedly considering a backup plan in case they miss out on their top defensive tackle target, Jalen Carter.

Carter, a 6-foot-3, 305-pound defensive tackle from the University of Georgia, has been drawing interest from several NFL teams, including the Chicago Bears. Many experts have ranked him among the top defensive tackles available in this year’s draft.

However, there is growing speculation that Carter may not be available when the Bears make their pick at 20th overall in the first round. Several other teams, including the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans, are also said to be interested in the talented defensive tackle.

In light of this, the Bears have reportedly begun working on a backup plan in case they miss out on Carter. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the team has shown interest in several other defensive tackles, including Levi Onwuzurike from Washington and Christian Barmore from Alabama.

Onwuzurike, a 6-foot-3, 290-pound defensive tackle, is known for his quickness, agility, and ability to disrupt plays at the line of scrimmage. He is a versatile player who can play multiple positions along the defensive line.

Barmore, on the other hand, is a 6-foot-5, 310-pound defensive tackle who is known for his size, strength, and ability to penetrate the offensive line. He was a key player in Alabama’s national championship run last season and is widely regarded as one of the top defensive tackles in this year’s draft.

While Carter remains the Bears’ top target, it’s reassuring to see that they have a backup plan in place. The team has several needs to address in this year’s draft, and missing out on their top targets could be detrimental to their overall success.

By considering other defensive tackles, the Bears are demonstrating that they are doing their due diligence and exploring all possible options to improve their team. Whether they select Carter or one of their backup options, the Bears are likely to come away with a talented player who can make an impact on their defense.
